AAYE Declaration COVID19 2020

DECLARATION BY AAYE ABOUT THE COVID19 PANDEMIC (April 2020)

The Corona Virus pandemic (Covid19) has hit Africa heavily since the first case was detected in Egypt on February 14, 2020. Since then, cases have been reported daily on the continent where almost all
countries are affected. As of April 21, 2020, the continent has counted a total of 23,437 cases of Covid19 for 1,142 deaths. The evolution of Covid19 cases shows that the number of cases detected on
the continent increased fourfold between April 1, when there were 5,815 cases, and April 21.

Regional distribution shows that Africa remains the most affected with nearly 42% of cases reported on the continent. Southern and Eastern Africa with nearly 25% of Covid19 cases remains the second most affected area in the continent, ahead of West Africa with 23%. Central Africa is less severely affected with only 8% of cases reported as of April 21, 2020.....
